CNC Routing

CNC (Computer Numerically Controlled) routing is a way of machining an object directly from CAD (Computer Aided Design) data with a sharp, fast moving tool. This results in high precision machined parts and the ability to create complex geometries.

We can machine timber, man made board and block materials such as PU modelling boards, PU and PolyStyrene foams, GRP and Carbon Fibres, and many more.

3 Axis Router

Our three axis machine is capable of cutting parts from sheet material as well as machining simple surfaces. Having three axis means the cutter can be moved in the x, y and z axis simultaneously, whilst remaining perpendicular to the bed of the machine. After machining a cusp is left on more complex surfaces which must be sanded afterwards. The SCM Pratix 3 axis machine has a cutting area of 1300 mm x 2500 mm and a height of 300mm.

5 Axis Router

The 5 axis machine works in a similar way to the 3 axis except that the cutter can be simultaneously moved in an additional two axis (twist and tilt) allowing it to remain perpendicular to the machined surface as opposed to the bed of the machine. It can machine highly complex surfaces to a very fine finish. We have a CMS Ares which has a very large working area of 2.5 metres x 6 metres and a height of .8 metres.
